When digital responsibility grows
Practical support for managing digital work as expectations increase
Midday exists to provide practical support for managing digital work as responsibilities increase.
I started this newsletter as my day-to-day work shifted from being on the tools to working in an advisory role.
Digital work feels harder to manage than it used to. Especially in recent years.
AI is often presented as something that should make work easier. Faster output. Less effort. Better results. In practice, it tends to increase output and expectation, without always improving outcomes. Decisions matter more. Responsibility increases, often without notice or support.
What usually happens is that, over time, you are asked to make more decisions.
To explain your thinking more often. And to carry the outcome if something does not work. That change usually happens gradually, without anyone noticing. This is common in small and mid-sized businesses.
Digital work often begins as a project. Over time, it becomes something the organisation relies on. As that happens, the pressure around it changes.
You find yourself managing risk, aligning different views, and making judgement calls, often without much space to think things through properly.
Midday is designed for anyone navigating the pressure and responsibility of digital work. If these challenges resonate with you, this is your place for support.
I have spent the last 25 years working in digital roles. Designing work, selling it, leading teams that build and support platforms, and sitting inside delivery and operations. Today, I work alongside people responsible for digital work who are often expected to act before they have had time to think.
One of the most useful lessons I have learned is that progress does not always come from doing more. Often it comes from knowing what not to do.
Not adding another tool.
Not starting another project too early.
Not reacting to pressure before understanding what is actually being asked.
Midday is focused on real-world situations that make digital work harder as responsibility increases. It is not about tools or trends, but about helping you manage growing demands without unnecessary extra work.
The themes I will return to look like this:
Your website feels harder to manage than it should
Decisions about digital work keep getting stuck or revisited.
You are under pressure to modernise, save money, or “do something” about AI.
Different stakeholders want different things.
You are planning a new phase, but are not confident about the right next step.
You rely on suppliers, but struggle to brief or challenge them clearly.
My hope is that each post focuses on a theme and ends with a practical takeaway.
To start, ask yourself:
What digital decisions are you responsible for now that you were not a few years ago?
Where do you feel pressure to act too quickly?
Where would it help to pause rather than push on?
If those questions resonate, you’re in the right place.
Midday will take these situations one at a time and offer steady, practical support. Join me as we tackle real digital work challenges together—your experiences and questions are always welcome.
